Did I watch the same movie you guys did?

SpoilerDiscussion

I loved the original Tron and the arcade game as a kid. I really like the concept of these things in our computer being parts of a different world. To me, that's what Tron was about, computer systems personified.

I recently watched Tron Legacy to prepare, and while it ignored some of the computing concepts it was still a really good movie.

Tron Ares was completely forgettable. I was given no reason to care for any of the characters. Why do I give a shit about some billionaire tech executives that have no connection to our previous heroes? Somehow, Jared Leto was the most likeable one in the movie. The main villain program had nothing interesting going on.

At least the action was good. The designs were kinda generic cyber shit though. Less digital looking and more MCU.

The movie honestly barely felt like Tron. The grid was completely abandoned other than some small segments. Computing concepts were referenced even less than in Tron Legacy. The few lines written in the command terminals are really just there to point at, and not used as plot devices.

I find it funny that they had wave a good movie in our face just to make us care for a couple seconds.

The soundtrack was fantastic though. Trent Reznor combined the Moog sounds of Wendy Carlos with some harder beats really well.

I don't understand the insane glaze this movie is getting on this sub. This movie throws everything unique about Tron out the window in favor of light cycles in real life.
