What will happen if I switch from Min + Fin to only Fin
Hey everyone,
I started taking 1mg oral finasteride daily and 1ml topical minoxidil twice a day about 3 months ago. I had a bit of a shedding phase but some very decent results are slowly starting to show, got a lot of new baby hairs growing and my hair is starting to look thicker. There is one problem however, i've always had a very dry and sensitive skin and never reacted well to just about anything I put on it, especially alcohol based products. The minoxidil seems to be working well but absolutely wrecks my skin. My skin is super dry, flaky and itchy, and while my hair looks better, the constant flakes falling off and the itching makes it look like I have some crazy dandruff going on and honestly it probably makes it look worse than before when it was just only thinning.
From what i've read Finasteride results start to really get going around the 1 year mark, which is about the same time my Minoxidil supply will run out (I've got about a 8 month supply of minoxidil left). I feel like the Minoxidil results show up a lot quicker and that the Minxodil has really kickstarted my hair growth so I don't really want to quit now right after the shedding phase took a lot of the hairs that I had left. I also don't want to stay on Minoxidil any longer than I have to because it really ruins my scalp and is very uncomfortable.
My idea was to keep doing Finasteride and Minoxidil until my Minoxidil supply runs out in 8 months and switch to only Finasteride after, hoping the Finasteride results alone will kind off take over from there. I've read that you lose Minoxidil gains after quitting Minoxidil but I can't seem to find a lot of info about quitting Minoxidil while staying on Finasteride. Does the Finasteride allow you to keep (most of) the gains? Will I get another shedding phase but keep most of the gains or will it most likely all fall out again and slowly start to grow back due to the Finasteride?
Oh and before everyone starts recommending the obvious, Oral Minoxidil isn't an option for me.
Thanks in advance, any answers would be greatly appreciated!
