In what ways are MLMs / Capitalism different scams?

Discussion

Hey All,

Hear me out. I have watched the social media accounts of different MLM girls for a while, and of course know that MLMs are a huge scam.

But lately, I have been thinking about how MLMs feel like a much more localized version of capitalism, which in itself I believe is a scam (I’m quite left leaning, but I don’t need to go down that full rabbit hole here).

I sometimes feel funny criticizing the MLM huns, and then (for example) hopping on Amazon or going to a store to buy something that has been marketed as some sort of holy grail item.

I can see when MLM huns sell some “nutrition” drink and have set up this whole ring light/background music/neutral colours etc that it is a scam, but why is it that we feel more of a critique towards the huns than if we go to Sephora and buy a celebrity’s makeup line?

Just looking for general thoughtful discussion, not to argue about capitalism etc. Its just a thought I’ve had lately.
