Do we use multiple ship types now?

Found a recent meta breakdown here, which was very nice as I realized yesterday that the old meta was not going to cut it anymore (when did missiles start sucking so hard?).

But more surprising to me than the builds themselves changing is the list of all ship types. For so, so long (it seemed), the meta was "corv swarm until battleships - skip the middle." And while that post suggests destroyers are still useless - cruisers are okay now?

I don't always want to play into the meta, but - at least with the old way - it was just an honest waste to do anything but corv swarm, and it was never any fun to get deep into an RP empire only to get rolled because I wanted the pretty cruisers (and destroyers, but w/e they can patrol or something).
