Newborn vs extended car seat

Hello, would like some opinions regarding buying a car seat that is for newborn to 15 months vs a larger one that is newborn to 4 years. The larger one cannot be removed from the car easily as it is very heavy. Are there any situations where a small newborn only car seat is better?
