I have personally been to these City Planning public hearings, Little Tokyo Community Council meetings and even my neighborhood community meetings and NIMBYs arguments are absolutely ridiculous and speak like they live in the 50s or something.

“In Downtown Los Angeles, the City Planning Commission has approved a massive $2-billion project called Fourth & Central that will transform an eight-acre industrial site. Developed by Continuum Partners, the plan will replace a cold storage facility with 10 new buildings, ranging from eight to 30 stories high.
Project Details and Community Response

The development will include:
• 1,589 residential units, with about 250 designated as affordable housing.
• 411,113 square feet of office space.
• 145,748 square feet of retail and restaurant space.
• Two acres of public open space.

The project has faced opposition, particularly from groups tied to the nearby Little Tokyo community. They argue the development is too big for the area, will contribute to gentrification, and is not economically viable. In response to this backlash, the developer reduced the height of the tallest building from 44 stories to 30.

However, the project also has strong support. Local business groups, construction unions, and several non-profit organizations have backed the plan, citing the large amount of affordable housing and the economic benefits it will bring.

Even with the commission's approval, the project isn't a done deal. It still needs to be approved by the Los Angeles City Council before it can move forward.”
