Cut our marketing costs by 60% and got MORE leads
Small business owner here.
Wanted to share what's working for us to get leads without burning cash on ads.
Run an ed recruitment business (started 2019). Like most small businesses:
- no recurring revenue model = need constant lead flow
- was spending heavily on Google Ads (only reliable channel)
- couldn't afford £3K/month marketing agencies
- couldn't afford £200/article for writers
- didn't have time to write content myself
Then I automated our blog content using AI, but not the way you think.
Instead of just "write me an article," I built an agent that researches what our customers actually search for, writes helpful content (not AI spam), publishes automatically every day, costs ~£50/month to run
Results WE had (in the first 6 months)
- from 30 clicks/month from Google to 7.5k+ monthly visits (from Google) plus 2.3k from ChatGPT (didn't even know that was a thing!)
- 180 articles published (1 per day)
Business Impact
- 0 → 100 organic leads per month
- Cut Google Ads budget by 60%
- STILL getting more total leads than before
- Organic leads convert better than paid (bonus!)
- AI costs: ~£50/month
- My time: 10 minutes/week
- Total: Way less than any other channel
Why This Worked
Consistency: Posted every single day (impossible manually)
Volume: More content = more chances to rank
-
Long-tail keywords: Less competition
-
Patience: Took 2-3 months to see real results
Now, the reality:
Is every article perfect? No.
Do they all rank on page 1? No.
But here's the thing: Even if only 20% of articles perform well, that's still 36 articles bringing in traffic. And it cost me £300 total vs £15,000 for writers.
And we got tons of lead, and ROI is just spectacular.
I built it as an internal tool (PilotPress) but made it available for other small businesses:
£49/month for automated daily content
7-day free trial
(DM for early tester discount!!)
For other small business owners:
- What's working for you to get leads cheaply?
- Anyone else moving away from paid ads to organic?
Happy to answer questions!
