Wanting to buy a home so badly but very discouraged, any advice?

I’ve been renting in LA for almost 15 years now. I have savings, but I am scared to buy anything. I’ve looked at homes in the 800k range and they are just a tiny bit nicer than my current apartment and in much worse areas. We pay 3k for a 2bd 2bath in a great area (pico Robertson). I’ve always wanted to own a home but it just feels silly to buy something that’s so expensive and not nice at all. Anyone else feel so trapped with renting and like there’s no where to go from there?
