I overheard my wife telling friends I “force sex” when I get upset

My wife (34F) and I (35M) have been married 8 years. We’ve had ups and downs, but I thought we had mutual respect.

The other night I got home early. I came upstairs quietly and heard her on the phone with a friend:

“Sometimes he’s so upset he demands sex… like, he forces it just to make me feel guilty.”

Those words sliced me open. I walked in, asked if she said that. She froze and said she was joking, “just venting.”

To me, it sounded like she weaponized our intimacy as proof he “pressures” her. I’m haunted now by how she frames my feelings as coercion.

I don’t know how to trust what she says exists vs what narrative she’s built.
