Sad realization about Mordecai.

Something that’s always bothered me about the second time Carl and Donut meet Mordecai when he’s drunk is that I don’t think him being drunk was about his brother but about Carl and Donut.

It just finally clicked and I found the words to explain it.

He usually gets blackout drunk after giving a new crawler the tutorial because he assumes they’ll die shortly afterwards and can’t handle the guilt.

When he took his deal to be a tutorial guide, he probably did it with the intention of helping future crawlers do well in the dungeon and escape it.

However; over the course of hundreds of crawls, he’s become bitter because 99 out of a 100 times, the crawler just dies shortly afterwards and Mordecai blames himself.

So now, after giving the tutorial to a crawler and sends them off to their deaths, he gets hammered to help with the guilt and expects to wake up in his magic guild the next day because the crawler he trained died.
