Playing smart for better scores can sadly be kinda boring. Play a round without caring about your score!
Anyone else feel this?
I 100% understand and agree that golf is about minimizing mistakes to get a lower score. Preventing several double bogeys is much more impactful than getting 1 or 2 birdies.
But at the same time, playing it smart and safe can start to feel pretty boring and monotonous. So every once in a while I play a round where I don't keep (total) score and just go for shits that can be fun. Trying to carry a corner or bunker, attack the pin, play with shot shapes. And in the end I just look at how many pars and birdies I made and ignore the total score.
It's a fun way to break things up and also test your skills. Plus, it also humbles you and reminds you how important what the beginning of this post was saying - play it safe to truly score well. Then let the cycle happen all over again lol
