Why does OCD throw out intrusive thoughts when you’re completely safe? It’s like it tries to make the thought worse so you’ll engage. Pure O is like having a bratty kid in your mind.

Question about OCD and mental illness

Why does OCD do this? It’s so strange. It’s like it wants me to avoid things and will make the existential thoughts worse and worse to get me to avoid something, or do a compulsion.

I mostly have pure O about existential thoughts (DPDR) and when I go somewhere far from home, it’ll tell me I’m not real, I’m stuck etc, to get what it wants, which is for me to not go. But I do anyways. I still live, it’s just terrible to constantly have to ignore.

I also have had compulsions around checking my front door lock 3,4,5 times before I go to bed. I have to have that “just right” feeling. Same with peeing before bed. Some nights I’ll get out of bed 5-6 times to Lee, because my mind is telling me it feels like I need to. It’ll also make me ask myself if I’m “really here” - because I’m dissociated. Hours will go by, especially when driving - and I’ll get thoughts of “oh, are you really here? You don’t remember how you got here, you should panic” 😂

Idk why OCD does this. It’s like a child that wants to get its way.
