Student purposely popped my wobble cushion with his pencil. Can I ask parents for a replacement?

Teacher Support &/or Advice

Basically what the title says. A student was using a wobble cushion and decided he wanted to pop it with the pencil in several places. This cushion belonged to my coworker and was purchased by her, not the school. We had a restorative conversation and decided the best way to solve the problem was to replace it. The student came back today (was going to call parents this afternoon) saying his mom told him they aren’t replacing it. Am I right to ask them today for that when I speak to them?
