Radioactive Cat Isolation - This is Heartbreaking
So our girl had hyperthyroidism and she got I-131 (radioactive iodine) on Monday. We brought her home yesterday.
We’re under strict rules to keep her isolated in a room by herself and not exceed more than 20 minutes with her per day, wear gloves, wash thoroughly after touching, careful with waste etc.
This is the hardest thing we’ve ever done. She just cries nonstop. Yowling and scratching at the door during all hours of the day and night. She has escaped twice.
Thank god we pee-proofed the room with a plastic tarp because she is retaliating by peeing outside the box despite our diligence to keeping that box 100% clean.
My heart is breaking listening to her yowl constantly ):
She has plenty of toys in there, multiple scratchy options, we’re giving her an extra helping of wet food (I read somewhere that water helps flush the radiation and thought this might help… definitely has nothing to do with how guilty I feel /s) and it’s a sizable room. We moved EVERYTHING out of it to prepare for her isolation so she’s got lots of space.
Idk what else to do for her but it’s making me so sad ):
