DirectX failed to initialize with current settings. Limited to 1080p 60hz

Hello everyone,

I just jumped into bazzite with my Ryzen 5800XT Nvidia 3070Ti ITX build yesterday, with the goal of having a capable "Steam Machine" that boots up like my Steam Deck. I went for the closed Nvidia KDE build and default boot into game mode. I went in expecting the Nvidia factor to make things a bit rough around the edges, but I've run into some serious issues:

Since remote play is important to me, I quickly realized that after a few minutes of turning my panel off, the GPU would no longer send an image via HDMI, and when I did a soft reboot, it would come up as a garbled mess that could only be fixed with a hard reboot. In trying to fix this, I thought maybe lowering the Steam Game Mode resolution to 1440 might make a difference. When I did this, I got a black screen (my panel and cables do support the resolution, as I had been using it in game prior to this attempt). I still had audio, and waited for it to reset to the previous resolution, but I never got video back, even after hard reset, connecting to a different panel, etc.

My brother, who has been using Linux (not Bazzite, though) for many years coached me on going to the terminal via CTRL+ALT+F2 and ultimately deleting the configuration via 'rm -r .config' and rebooting. I got my display back, but then started experiencing Direct3D issues when booting a game. I am now limited to 1080p 60hz (display capable of 4k 120), and I'm not sure how to fix this.

I consulted google, and tried 'ujust change-nvidia-module' in terminal and got "justfile does not contain recipe 'change-nvidia-module'".

Now I'm here.

Can anyone help me out here? Should I just start from scratch and not touch the game mode resolution option? I'd prefer not to lose the roughly 500gb of games that I've downloaded if I can help it.
