Did I steal my own bike?
My bike was stolen from my front porch last week. I kept it locked to the railing. It's a 21-speed mountain bike. I was about 20 years old, not an expensive one but still kept in good working order. It happened during the daylight hours last week when I wasn't at home. The cheap lock was cut with bolt cutters and left behind. Unfortunately, I have no security camera so there is no video evidence. There isn't much the police could do except take a report of it. I'm baffled by who would want an old bike like that. The seat was extremely worn and in need of replacement. Some of the decals had started peeling, but otherwise it was good mechanically with decent tires. Then I started thinking: What if I time-travelled from the future to my town and needed transportation? I would know the bike would be on my front porch. The next question is: Where would I have gone to with it? The answer occured to me as being the casino that is about one mile from my house. Not to gamble, but because it's also a hub for public transportation to the two closest cities. In fact, I've taken that very ride several times before to get a bus. I would lock the bike to a fence near the woods. I haven't had a chance to check that area for it yet since it's not a place I go past every day, but I plan to. Obviously, this time the bike wouldn't be locked up. If I do find the bike there, I will have proven something even Stephen Hawking wasn't able to prove.
