USPS return to sender, error?

I had a package that was labeled out for delivery, it then updated to “no such number” “returned to sender” before the mail truck even came. I’ve had a package out for delivery, changed to addresses unknown returned to sender, then showed up the next day. Is this possibly the same thing, just worded differently? Has anyone had this issue? I e called the local PO and no answer. Can it be a mistake, and still be be delivered next business day? Very frustrating
