I need advice on this guy I like

hey so me and his guy recently made plans to hangout and I rlly like him but I’m having some doubts. He’s a rlly good guy, he’s Christian we go to church tg, he seems so sweet, plays Gutair at the church, very involved and loud about his love for God. Very much all green flags, he’s got this Jesus glow to him. This stuff is very important to me in a relationship but he was with this girl, his ex for 3 years and been broken up 5 months. I heard from a lot of his friends from church that she cheated but also he cheated back. That he called her a whore and was just rlly rude to her. What should I do? Apart of me Dosent wanna believe it cus he seems like a genuinely good guy, should I straight up ask his ex, or maybe even him about what ppl have been saying?
