Does anyone else feel nothing for their family and even worse like they don’t care that they don’t?
I (32F) am moving from my and Mom’s house to go to a townhome. My family, Mom, Aunt, and Uncle have been helping move furniture and other things out this week. Aunt called me out on not packing more ahead of time and she’s right. I should not have let depression get the better of me. I own that.
But then I tell her how this move has damaged so much in my life (especially my relationship with my boyfriend), how I’m sick of being the strong one for my my family (my bipolar mom and now dead alcoholic dad), and how I feel overwhelmed (I’m autistic and have ADHD). Not in all the details but a gist. Aunt then tells me how I’m not self-reliant (have been since childhood, couldn’t trust parents) and how I need to be strong and rely on my real family because my friends are not real family since being able to talk to them doesn’t count. She also points out I’m not financially independent. I’m not. Finding work has been hard. And I’m done.
I feel like I’m grateful for their help, but I don’t owe them anything. I don’t feel anything for them and for now that is what it is.
