Morgan Stanley opens crypto funds to all clients — a major step toward mainstream adoption
Morgan Stanley just made a big move in the crypto space. Starting October 15, the bank will allow all of its wealth management clients — not just high-net-worth investors, to access crypto funds tied to bitcoin and ethereum. This marks a major shift from its earlier policy, where only clients with over $1.5 million in assets and a high-risk profile could invest.
The bank has reportedly implemented new oversight tools to help manage risk, including automated systems to monitor client exposure to crypto. Internal guidelines suggest that portfolios with higher risk tolerance might allocate up to around 4% to digital assets, while more conservative investors would likely stay well below that.
This change signals a big step toward normalizing crypto within traditional finance. It opens the door for a wider range of investors, including those with smaller portfolios or retirement accounts, to gain exposure to digital assets under professional management. It also reflects growing institutional confidence in crypto as a legitimate part of diversified portfolios.
Do you think this move will accelerate mainstream adoption of crypto, or could it backfire if volatility spikes again?
