Forgetting Names of Objects, and Words

Questions/Advice

Hey everyone,

I’ve noticed something weird lately and wanted to see if anyone can relate — especially people with ADHD.

Every now and then (maybe a few times a week), I’ll completely blank on common words like Ferris wheel or cremate. It’s not that I’ve never heard them — I can describe the thing perfectly — but the actual word just won’t come to mind. For example, I drove past a Ferris wheel yesterday and my brain said carousel, and I only remembered the right term after looking it up.

It’s starting to make me nervous because I’m only 21, and I’ve been overthinking whether this could be something serious like early-onset dementia or just part of ADHD / anxiety / normal word retrieval issues.

I also deal with ADHD and health anxiety, so I know I can catastrophize things — but it’s been happening enough that it’s in my head a lot.

Has anyone else with ADHD had trouble recalling really basic words like this?
