Cutting and glueing IPE for chessboard

Hey team - beginner woodworker here

I bought some ipe from a carpenter (by accident - he is a little shortsighted these days and turns out his vision is not the best)

I need to glue strips of ipe to stripes of ash - then cut across the grain once cut before re glueing (to create the 8x8 board appearance). I will use a local carpenter’s machine for these cuts.

I also need to mitre some strips of IPE for the border

Will a Japanese double edged saw be ok for the mitre process and any tips on the gluing process ?
