do you think people have tried to become some variation of a superhero?

I've always wondered whether some scientist has actually tried to become a superhero somehow. There's no way there isn't someone crazy enough to actually try it and we've just never heard about it. Do you think anyone's actually managed to get it to work? What do you think would be the most common methods they'd try? Would we ever know if it did/has happened?
