I'm terrible at defending unless I use the 4141 or 3 CM's.

I gotta be doing something wrong, shouldn't formations with two CDM's be more solid?

My record was getting kind of embarrasing with the 4411, 4231 or 4213, I kept conceding over 5 goals per game. I gave the 4141 a chance and I'm now sitting comfortably halfway through D3 and win or lose my defense is really competent at the very least.

This is not a brag post, quite the opposite, although having two box to box CM's scoring and assisting (and defending really well!), I'd prefer to have a CAM.

So how do I make it work, specially my fullbacks are getting beat inside and outside (frimpong and A. Davies), always out of position and they are the main reason for my defense collapsing, and the CDM's don't do much either... so is there a trick to this??
