Why do so many people despise public welfare/social programs?

It seems expect for like libraries that were grandfathered in. The idea of public resources is viciously attacked see the attacks on the educational system and roads.

I mean the government is evil but that’s mostly the prison and military industrial complex which they don’t have any issue with.

See charter schools and the hatred of welfare expect if it’s for farmers or something
