About overhaul

We all know with his quirk he can destroy and rebuild something if not anything.

But he is not forced to actually rebuild the things he destroyed, that makes me wonder. If he breaks something can he wait like a day before deciding ro rebuild it? Maybe even longer? Or does it stop working after he activates his quirk again on something else?
