Jessica Rabbit

Poem

You: rabbit in my yard.
Can I call you Jessica?
In my society it has a stigma,
but it’s not like that I swear –

Hopping off across the street
without answering clearly…
sounds like a “yes!” to me.

Where are you off to,
Jessica Rabbit?
A warren you helped dig?
Maybe one that’s close by.

Ironic:
we people dig holes too.
Yet, can’t usually
climb out as easy as you.

You seem your best
at dusk and dawn:
we struggle through each day.

Is that why you all
steer clear of humans?
To turn backs and
blind eyes to
lethargy and dismay?

Over there you stand,
Jessica Rabbit:
ears erect, on full alert.

Ears that pluck secrets
from the sky.
Forever virgin to lies
and the tales of mankind.

In your world,
you’re only acquainted
with the violence of man.

So, you easily hop away,
making me think you’d be
a more fitting human being
than anyone like me.
