I’ve been following the discussions here, and it’s clear that a lot of foundational knowledge about the GMS timeline is fragmented. To accurately determine where Maplestory Classic ended, we must put aside nostalgia and focus on the archived facts.

This is where you stop guessing. I am sharing Togain's monumental work: a meticulous, version by version historical deep dive that covers every major change from the earliest GMS beta files right up to the official Big Bang update. The sheer effort Togain put into compiling this history is insane, and it stands as the definitive resource we have for this era.

My personal view is that the era of Classic gameplay ended around v.55. This is the point where I felt the fundamental structural changes and content additions of later versions shifted the game too far from the original experience. This version marks the time I stopped playing consistently, eventually moving to v.64 private servers later on to recapture the nostalgia.

If you believe another version—such as the addition of NLC (v.40), the release of Pirates (v.62) or Cygnus Knights (v.73)—is the true cutoff for "Classic," this video will challenge you to defend that position against the patch history.

Watch the source material. Once you have seen the actual history of the patch notes, come back and let us know:
What is your definitive, version number specific cut-off for "Classic Maple", and what specific change(s) justifies that choice?
