Plane plan help

I’m a beginner and slowly working into Chris Schwarz stick chairs/anarchist designs. My father loaned me a vintage Stanley 5 and 220. He took them back and gave me a new bench dog #5 and a rabbeting block plane. (I am grateful) I will eventually want a rabbet plane but I don’t know if the combination is an effective one. Before I clean and set up these generous gifts, should I return the rabbeting plane for an adjustable mouth block plane?
