Can trust ever be rebuilt after I crossed a line? Am I overreacting to a potential future?
I (20F) was with my ex for about a year. After she broke up with me, I panicked and did something really wrong — out of fear, I had a friend help me get into her social media accounts (I didn’t really know how myself). She caught me, and at first I lied, but about 15 minutes later I told her the truth and apologized.
She told me afterward that she panicked too — she even told her mom to change all their family passwords because she didn’t know what I might do. I’d never acted like that before, but I get why she was scared. I was in a really emotional state and lashed out in a way I deeply regret.
We talked recently for closure. She said if the universe brings us back together, it’ll happen, but you can’t force something that wasn’t meant to be. She also said she can’t look past what happened and that she’s lost her trust in me. She’s blocked me on most things, but unblocked me on Instagram in case I really need to reach out.
I’m trying to genuinely change and respect her space now. I just can’t help but wonder — can trust ever be rebuilt after something like this? Have any of you ever rebuilt something after this level of broken trust?
