High NT reading 5.1 at 12 week scan good news story
Good news story-I wanted to write this as I spent hours reading all the stories on here after our experience. We had a high NT reading at a private ultrasound at 11 weeks. They wouldn’t tell us how much the measurement was due to being a private scan but you could see the measurement was too high from the images. We have had a previous pregnancy with a syndrome and chose not to continue with the pregnancy which has been a really hard decision. We also already had a 2 year old daughter who never had any complications during pregnancy other than low papa A which I had aspirin for and she was born healthy. After the private scan we had our 12 week NHS scan who confirmed the hight NT reading at 5.1 and gave us a 50 percent chance that the baby would be born alive and well and so cussed options of termination with us the . We had paid for a private NIPT test due to previous pregnancy and got the results a week later which were all low risk for any syndromes. We chose to have the CVS as well as we had down previously to confirm and all the results from the NIPT and the results from the initial CVS and the array came back normal. We were then told that the next most likely reason for the high reading was a heart problem- we had a specialist heart ultrasound at 18 weeks which showed the heart as normal so far. As all the tests had come back normal they said there may be a problem with the heart at birth but that it could be operated on and they now gave us a 98 percent chance that everything would be ok. Obviously we worried throughout the rest of the pregnancy and at birth we asked for a Paediatric doctor to be present. We had a planned c section due to my placenta starting to not work properly and I had developed high blood pressure. We now have a 2 month old beautiful girl who seems happy and healthy. She has a fat roll around the back of her neck which the midwives said could have contributed to the high reading at the initial scan. Please don’t give up if you have a high reading it could all work out ok.
