[MN] Advice Waned About "Safety Officer's" Facebook Posts
Hi everyone, I could really use some advice. I work at a small college in Minnesota as a college instructor. As you know, this has been a tense few weeks for teachers and college instructors due to increased attacks on education and rumors that college "radicalized" Tyler Robinson.
We have a "safety officer" at our college who performs administrative duties like forcing instructors to complete their online safety trainings. Despite his title, he's more of an administrator than a safety officer.
Apparently his Facebook page is public and one of his facebook "friends" from the college saw a bunch of his public posts after the killing of Charlie Kirk. You can see theme: HERE.
It didn't take long for the whole college to find out, especially because he is not very well liked or respected to begin with. Several of us went to HR but were told that, after consulting with their legal team, they cannot do anything because the posts aren't a direct threat. In my mind, encouraging people to report your own COWORKERS to watchlists that encourage the targeted harassment of them and their families IS harassment, especially alongside posts about all democrats belonging in jail or institutionalized. There was another post about using concealed carry to "take care" of democrats that I wasn't able to screenshot before he blocked us all.
HR talked to him about this posts -- I don't know what was said -- but kept them up and then double-downed and posted again about blocking HR and all of this coworkers.
I understand free speech is important, but this shit from the safety officer?!? Come on. What more can be done if admin. is telling us the threat isn't specific enough?
Thank you in advance for any insight you can provide.
