My parents told my extended family I’m pregnant on Thanksgiving (Canadian) even though I told them not to tell anyone yet

Rant

I am furious and needed to vent this out. I told my parents I was pregnant two weeks ago (12 weeks) and asked them not to tell my extended family and friends yet because it was almost Canadian Thanksgiving, and I didn’t want to have to talk to everyone in person about it. Also it’s still relatively early and if something went wrong I didn’t want everyone to know.

I confirmed with them multiple times, including sending a text reminding them not to tell everyone 5 days ago and reminded them two nights ago not to tell anyone. I thought it was possible my dad let something slip by mistake but was ready to cover it up if needed. They completely agreed and said they wouldn’t tell anyone.

Well of course today is our canadian Thanksgiving celebration, and it turns out they just already told everyone.

I am upset because these family members have the tendency to say all the negative comments (it’s exhausting, your life is ending, labor is awful, here’s how my kid almost died) even on a day when someone isn’t pregnant, and I just feel like now the whole family event will be comments like that. Nevermind the fact that I’ll be the center of attention which I hate. I’ve been really struggling this whole pregnancy and the extra pressure makes me feel even worse.

I know they’re excited but they have no concept of boundaries, which was actually one of the reasons I waited so long to get pregnant in the first place.

Thank you for listening, just needed to get that out.
