I was in a third grade classroom for half a day with an intern teacher. I hadn’t finished up the sub notes when the teacher returned early so I briefly went over them before handing in what I’d written down. I mentioned one student reading his screen from under 8” (20 cm) with his glasses on and maybe 4” (10cm) when he took them off. I recommended a referral for vision screening.

It surprised both the mentor & intern teachers as they hadn’t noticed it. They turned to his desk and the boy’s nose was right up next to his Chromebook screen.

I felt good that I caught something good teachers hadn’t and the mentor teacher said she was going to put him in for a vision screening.
