Finally reached my 6-month emergency fund goal!

I am a single, 35F, living in a HCOL city. It took me 5 years! I opened my first savings account on August 2020, initial deposit and balance of $500. Today, deposited $500 with an ending balance of $26,320. My goal was $26,000. I started working full-time in my career back in September 2020. Prior to that was undergrad and grad school and part-time jobs here and there. I always felt like I never had spare change to put into a savings account so I just never thought I needed it. It has been a grueling journey. To start with nothing and knowing that you’re on your own without the help of anyone but yourself. I always deposited $200 a month and if there was ever extra change or any tax return checks, I put it all in there. My parents are immigrants and never taught us much about finances, so I learned very late in my life how important having a savings account / emergency fund was. I had moments of guilt and shame that I waited so long to start saving up because I often compared myself to others who began their journey in their earlier years. But I had to remind myself that everyone is different and it’s no competition because this is for your future self only. I feel like I allowed myself a healthy balance of spending money on social activities and going out to eat here and there on weekends, but I always made sure during the work week to pack a lunch and not to spend anything during weekdays if possible. I don’t have anyone to share this with, but it is something I feel very proud of doing for myself. My next goal is to get it to 9 months. But before that happens, I am hoping I can try to max out my Roth IRA first. I am $5,000 left to max for this year. Maybe I’ll reach that goal one year. Thanks for reading.
