AITAH for not going out of my way to get a resident's number?
TLDR at the end.
I'm a med intern. I come from a town that has a pretty famous medschool. (I study in a different city tho)
During my 2nd yr of college, I stayed in a dorm room with seniors (say Alya and Brisha) 2 years older than me. They were pretty nice to me all things considered (hazing culture is pretty strong in Indian medschools so I was terrified but they were decent girls and didnt trouble me). We weren't close and once they graduated 2 years ago, we lost contact.
A few days ago, one of my old roommates Alya texted me. She told me she was thinking of joining as a resident at my hometown medschool and asked about the city, college, culture, workload, etc. We had a good conversation and I asked her to text me if she ever needed anything. I think she must've talked to her friends because the very next day, old roommate Brisha texted asking if she could pass my number to a friend of hers, say Chaya. Chaya is also looking into peds/obg residency in my hometown and wanted to talk to me. (Chaya was apparently also at our medschool but ive never met her or heard of her).
A little context here: my dad also works as a professor at my hometown medschool and has a lot of friends there. His cousin (my aunt) is an obgyn faculty there and her daughter (say Dia) is an obgyn resident there. My old roommates know my dad works at the hospital and thats why they contacted me.
I said yes and Chaya texted me the next day. I expected her to ask the same questions as Alya. But she straight up asked me if I knew anyone obgyn/peds residents. I clearly told her I dont know anyone in peds. But I could get her Dia's number from my dad (with Dia's permission of course). I was willing to answer any other questions she had about the city or the college or work culture there.
Chaya didnt ask any further questions and insisted on getting Dia's number. I told her indirectly that im not comfortable giving out contact infos but I can ask my dad to ask Dia is she was willing to share her contact number.
Chaya agreed.
My parents met Dia at a wedding tonight and asked if they could share her number and if she would be willing to talk to Chaya about the college. Dia willingly agreed and sent her number over.
I forwarded Dia's number to Chaya and said "Would you mind contacting her after a couple of days because D is busy with a family wedding"
Chaya immediately texts back (without even a single thankyou or acknowledgement) and says "OK fine but actually I wanted a peds resident's number not an obgyn resident. Can you ask your cousin to send it over?"
I haven't replied to her message yet. I dont want to bend over backwards for a girl Ive never even met and dont want my parents to be calling in favours from their colleagues/relatives for someone they dont know either. Besides, ik its rude to hand out other people's contact information without their consent and 1st yr residents are usually very very busy.
But Alya and Brisha were nice to me during college so I feel like I owe them a favour to help out their friend?
AITA if I dont go out of my way to get her a peds resident's contact info?
TLDR: Old college roommate asked me to connect her friend (someone I’ve never met) with a peds/obgyn resident. I offered the number of a relative in ob/gyn instead, which they accepted but then the stranger insisted she wants a peds resident’s number. AITA for ignoring her?
