r/cornsnakes Enclosure sizing and advice QUESTION Hello all, I was looking around but hadn't seen anything pinned on enclosures or keeping like on some other subreddits, I had a few questions about a set up I'm putting together for my first snake.

I'm looking to get either a baby corn snake or rosy boa and start them in a rather large bioactive enclosure at 40 gallons which the plan was to keep them in it there whole life. Someone I know is helping take care of the bioactive and substrate parts, but I was hoping to learn more about heating and controlling humidity.

From what I understand heating lamps are good but there are a ton of different bulbs.

Under the tank heaters are either the devil and will burn your snake or are recommended for each tank.

humidity in my area shouldn't be a problem. I know I'm ment to maintain a heat gradient across the tank with one side around 85F and the other at around 75F. And it's alright to let it drop a bit in the evening.

The original plan is I have a zoo med environmental control station. Which has two temperature probes and lets you specify the temperatures you want as well as control day/night. I was going to Attach a heating mat to the on off temperature control, a 50watt heating bulb into the dimmable heater over the hot side of the tank. Then have a UBV light like 12-18 inches long on the hot side of the tank that turns off at night.

Do you think any of that would be harmful or that there are better options? Additionally other than plants and some hides are there any recommendations for anything inside of or around the tank to help maintain it?

Thanks for any and all the help, I have very little idea what I'm doing.
