Defending Against Oversized Opens

Post inspired by this comment by u/cj832

So you're playing an MTT, 20bb deep, early phase of the tournament so we assume chip EV utility.

Here's the problem, villain is opening 3.5x with a preflop chart designed for a min-raise! This is a common low stakes occurrence. So how can we exploit them?

RFI

So I ran a preflop solve, and nodelocked a HJ GTO 2x open into HJ's 3.5x opening range. Here's what it looks like:

HJ 3.5x

BTN vs 3.5x RFI

Facing the oversized open, BTN just shoves every shove-able hand! This is the weapon of choice against over-sized opens at this depth.

BTN vs HJ 3.5x

It's the ~same strategy in CO and SB; just 1% tighter or wider.

BB vs RFI

Now in the BB is gets really weird. Here we see the same idea, shoving every shove-able hand, all pairs good Ace-x, and KQ. What gets me though is the calling range. Look at how capped that is. There's no polarization in this shoving range, it's perfectly linear.

BB vs HJ 3.5x

At 30-40bb it gets tricky to employ this shoving strategy. I might run a deeper sim another time.
