Government vs private

Hi everyone. Hoping to get some pros and cons for each side of being a private practice (small firm) lawyer vs a government lawyer.

I am 2PAE currently in a private practice. Currently, my employer pays for my practising certificate and all my CPD. Does the government meet these expenses or is it a personal expense. A gov pro would be paid maternity leave which I don’t have in private practice. Another pro would be guaranteed annual pay rises not tied to a budget.
