To the fate of USSR?

Once upon a time USSR was a mighty powerful country. Its federal government was highly corrupt and the union collapsed. In USA, fortunately government officials are not generally corrupt and despite all the noise, government has been running efficiently, probably until now. With current federal turmoil, layoffs, (in)voluntary retirement, how long this US government aka union machinery can sustain?
