Why are US brands and rebadges so damn loud?
This is a major concern for me living in a multiplex condo situation in a cold climate. I've been researching ducted heat pumps for a while, and the Japanese brands are super quiet, followed by the Chinese, which achieve the lowest temp heating.
I was recently quoted on a Bosch, which is only rated for -4 and it is 4x louder (79 db vs approx 60 db) than a -13 rated Mitsubishi or -15 Fujitsu. FYI- decibel ratings are not done on a standard scale but are logarithmic.
I want to get more attention for this issue because excessive noise can be a huge quality of life concern, and US companies are just not addressing it. Daikin, Lennox, and other major US brand cold climate units are much louder just based on specs. Carrier's premium cold climate units seems to address this somewhat, but that's all I'm finding.
