Zerg needs to be buffed
Ok, bit of a clickbait title.
But, Zerg needs to have something different in the early game. Buffed might not be the right word - it's more like it needs to be adjusted.
I main'd Zerg for years before finally giving up. I lost a lot of motivation as I felt every single game was repetitive as hell.
Step 1) Macro up
Step 2) Queens Galore
Step 2b) Scout
Step 3) Defend harass from adepts/oracles/banshee's/hellions/reapers OR defend cheese
Step 3b) If ZvZ, wall off + spam roaches
Step 4) Scout for what opponents actual build is going to be
Step 5) Build composition to counter what opponents build is going to be
Step 6) Work to outscale opponent.
I guess the point I'm trying to make here is that...there's no fun or variety in Zerg games. It's just doing the same thing over and over again. Zerg cheeses like 12 pool or ling flood don't really work beyond a certain MMR and there's not really a meaningful follow up to those either if it doesn't go well.
There's no scenario in Zerg play which takes the initiative.
I can't go, "Right, screw what the opponent is building, I'm going for Ling bane hydra regardless". That just doesn't work. It's just a very reactive race.
My suggestion is to potentially change the way Zerg works by adding something that allows a player to be aggressive in the early game. Maybe an aerial harrass unit that operates similar to a banshee/oracle, but make it accessible earlier than the Mutalisk. Or, simply nerf the Mutalisk and make it available much earlier in the game. Or even make a unit that is cheap, super early, and doesn't scale at all. So something like Adept's plus an upgrade like Glaives.
Does anyone else feel the same? Or am I the only one that get's sick of playing the same identical game over and over again when playing as Zerg?
