Anyone switch from python/cheaper hardware to Beckhoff IPCs?
I’ve been building automation equipment with hardware that I can interact with using python. I have a MOXA IO that uses rest. I wrote a few wrappers for hardware with c# apis. I’m a python programmer so I stuck with what I knew.
As I get more into automation I am thinking of switching to beckhoff IPCs. That gives me more reliability and easier communication to a lot of IO and hardware. Ethercat also opens up a lot. And beckhoff runs off windows so I can use .net apis on the windows side. Also I can write in structured text for the plc-ish side.
Has anyone made this switch? It seems like a no brainer other than the added cost of the IPC and the steeeeep learning curve I’ll need to jump into.
