Is it selfish of me to throw away the contents of my fridge without separating for recycling?
I am a person who suffers from clinical depression and that definitely makes it hard for me to keep up with cleaning things around the house. My fridge has slowly gotten full of leftovers or other things in various containers that are way past expired and need to be tossed. It's at a point now that I have to jam in fresh food to little spots that are free so I can still use the fridge. I hold my breath when I open the fridge cuz it does not smell great (it's not vile, but it's definitely a little funky). To be clear, this food is all in containers or bags and there are no vegetables out rotting into a puddle or anything.
I have neglected to take care of this and it has stayed at this point for awhile now because it feels like a massive undertaking to go through and separate all the recyclable containers from the rotten/expired food, from both effort and the grossness. I am someone who tries to recycle at every opportunity I can, and every time I think about just grabbing a big trash bag and tossing everything in, I feel like it would be a combination of relief but also guilt. I need to take care of this but I'm not sure how to. Is it wrong of me to make a fresh start by tossing it all out without separating, or is there some other way I should approach this?
