Career advice: Regulatory Affairs vs Clinical Research which one is better long-term?
Hey everyone,
I’d love some career advice from people working in the life sciences or pharma field in Canada.
I’m an internationally pharmacist ( with 2 years experience in regulatory affairs in drugs ) who recently moved to Ontario Canada. I started working in Quality Control, but I’m looking to move into something more aligned with my background , either Regulatory Affairs or Clinical Research , I'm planning on taking a course
I’ve been researching both paths and here’s what I’m torn about:
- staying in regulatory affairs (RA): it seems more stable, desk-based, better for long-term job security and I already have an experience
- Clinical Research (CR): seems more dynamic, but I’ve heard a lot of roles are contract-based and tied to projects, it kind of mix and I'm interested
My priorities are job security, growth, and financial stability. I’m also a bilingual (French/English) newcomer, if that helps
For those already working in these areas
- How’s the job market right now in Canada?
- Which one has better stability and career progression long-term?
- are these areas AI proof , like they're not going to be replaced by AI ?
- Do employers value private-college diplomas (like AAPS) or prefer public ones (Seneca/Humber)?
- Any regrets or things you wish you knew before starting?
Would really appreciate your honest insights
