Thought experiment: spouse or child?

Safe generalizion that conservatives are pro life. They think unborn children are as important as born. So, two part question, and I implore you, please please PLEASE try to be intellectually honest with yourself and not answer one because of your answer to the other.

1. Your wife, or you (if you're a woman), are pregnant and about to give birth. Doc says there's a complication, and you can only save one or the other. Who do you pick?

2. Psychotic serial killer breaks into your house, holds your wife and your 2 year old child hostage. He tells you to pick which one lives, who do you pick?

If you truly think that an unborn child is just as important, your answer should be the same for both. But truthfully, I don't think that's how people, if they're being honest, would answer. Obviously this is a hypothetical scenario, and 99.999% it'll never happen, but I'm curious how you answer.
