Is there a way to activate party idle chatter?

I’m currently replaying the game for the first time in a while now with some mods, I’m currently in act 1 and I’ve noticed that when two origin characters are split off from the group they begin idle chattering with each other a lot more, is this a normal mechanic when two characters are alone together out in the world, I’ve had moments when the party talk whilst exploring but it’s often very rare?
