Boyfriend starting Antidepressants

Hi there

My boyfriend might be starting antidepressants soon. He’s been struggling for along time, and although he’s not outright suicidal, he has told me recently that he’s not sure if he wants to die and not sure that he wants to be alive. He’s going to the doctor and his therapist to ask about antidepressants and I’m so proud of how hard he’s trying, and so happy he might get some help.

However, I’m really really worried :( I’ve heard about the numbness and that sometimes they don’t even work at all and I’m so distraught and afraid that might happen to him. I’m terrified he’s going to go completely numb and I’m scared they won’t work at all and he’ll lose hope entirely.

If possible I’d just like to hear about some people’s experiences with antidepressants and some encouragement, I’m really scared for him :(
