Zarah Sultana sets out her dividing lines with the Greens
From the New Statesman's Megan Kenyon on x:
Speaking at The World Transformed event on Red/Green alliances Zarah Sultana says Your Party and the Greens “don’t have identical voter bases and that is a strength”. Draws out what she views are differences between Greens and YP. They include:
- Green Party’s whipping system - YP will whip MPs.
- Green Party position on NATO. “You can’t Greenwash NATO” Sultana said.
- Line which has been mentioned several times about YP being an “explicitly socialist” party.
And what Sultana herself tweeted:
Great discussion at TWT on how the left must unite — Your Party and the Greens — to keep Farage out of Downing Street.
But unity isn’t uniformity. Your Party will be truly anti-imperialist: no diplomatic ties with a genocidal, apartheid Israeli state and no greenwashing NATO.
Not a good enough justification for splitting the left imo, and I don't see any electoral benefit in Your Party becoming the Stop the War party. Even among left-wing voters I don't think there's a huge appetite for anti-NATO policies, it's a fairly niche concern for a very specific type of lefty.
