Catholic Parenting re: Christmas

My son is 2.5 and this will be his first Christmas that he is a little boy and is more understanding of things. I introduced him to Jesus very early on with books, pictures I keep on a low table by the front door and by saying goodnight to Jesus and thanking him for our day, family, and the things we have. I need advice on how to explain Christmas to him now. He knows that Christmas is Jesus' birthday and I started mentioning to him that Santa Claus is Jesus' friend who brings presents to children to celebrate Jesus' birth. I am very truthful with my son, I haven't told him anything yet that is not the truth so telling him that Santa Claus delivers presents on a sleigh to houses is feeling very uncomfortable to me. Also, my son is an only child and we buy him little hotwheels cars or something small like that 2-3 times a month if we are out and see something he likes. So how then will Christmas morning be special if he can just receive these things at any time? It's different from when I was growing up with two siblings and we didn't just get what we wanted all the time. I want him to experience the magic feeling of Christmas and seeing all the presents under the tree but at the same time, I don't want to lie to him and have it be about presents for himself. I appreciate any advice, thank you!
